Intervention AE: A Demonstration of Intervention Services |
|
Intervention AE The television series Intervention AE illustrates real live cases of intervention. The show follows individuals who are suffering from compulsive behavior such as drug addiction, alcoholism, eating disorders, a gambling addiction, etc., and films “a day in the life” highlighting the difficulties one encounters throughout addiction. The show gives hope to individuals going through similar situations, and demonstrates that recovery is a possibility. Intervention AE reveals the realities associated with addiction and compulsive behavior, but emphasizes that with the right attitude and the appropriate levels of support and encouragement, anything is achievable. Intervention Services The show displays various intervention services and the potential advantages to working with a professional interventionist. A professional interventionist will begin the process by working with the family, and other individuals such as close friends or co-workers who will be present at the intervention. Together they will develop a plan of action and discuss possible tactics to use in the intervention. The interventionist will also be responsible for facilitating the intervention and making sure that there is a proper balance of emotion and structure. After the intervention, an intervention specialist may provide guidance in the treatment admission process, and post intervention consultations and services. Crisis Intervention One example of an intervention that is often not thought of as an intervention per se, is a crisis intervention. A crisis intervention addresses victims of trauma, such as domestic abuse, sexual abuse, violence, crime, suicide, natural disasters, etc. Victims of traumatic events such as these are at risk for developing post-traumatic stress disorder. The goal of a crisis intervention is to address the victim of the trauma before they develop post-traumatic stress disorder and help them cope with the reality of what has happened to them and then move forward past it. |
