One of it's top ranking shows, Intervention AE, depicts real people suffering from compulsive or dangerous behavior. Each episode follows a person suffering from some form of addiction or dangerous behavior, highlighting the negative implications this behavior has had on his or her life. Also in every episode is a surprise intervention staged by family members, close friends, etc. The show provides realistic illustrations of the planning that goes into an intervention, the difficulty associated with staging an intervention, the negative consequences associated with these unhealthy behaviors, etc. However, it also provides hope and inspiration by televising successful interventions and recoveries. Drug Addiction Intervention Drug addiction is a dangerous, yet common ailment. A drug addiction intervention is a structured process that is often facilitated by a professional interventionist. The goal is to help the individual confront his or her addiction and direct them into a drug addiction treatment program. There must be a healthy balance of emotional support from family and friends, and structured facilitation and information from a professional. The hope is that by the end of the intervention, the individual will willingly enlist in a treatment program. Alcoholism Intervention An alcoholism intervention facilitates the alcohol treatment admission process. The first step in staging an alcoholism intervention is for family members and friends of a struggling alcoholic to work together to develop an appropriate plan of action. The intervention itself must be structured and organized. Family members and close friends have the opportunity to express their fears, concerns, and anxieties, as they provide words of encouragement and empowerment. It is extremely important that the individual does not feel betrayed, attacked or shamed in the process. Support is of utmost importance and will increase the individuals chances for a full recovery.
