Alcoholism Intervention: Alcohol Abuse Intervention and Drug and Alcohol Intervention

Alcoholism Intervention

Alcoholism is a dangerous, yet extremely common addiction. In cases of excessive alcoholism, an alcoholism intervention may be in the best interest of the family, friends and the individual. An alcoholism intervention assists an alcoholic and persuades them to enlist in an alcoholism treatment program. The primary goal of such programs is to aid the individual in their escape from alcohol and the destructive actions that are a result of their alcoholism. What the intervention process intends to do is inform the alcoholic that they do indeed have a problem and that this problem is affecting not only their life, but also the lives of those around them. Denial is a tactic used by many alcoholics to avoid acknowledging their weakness and to prevent anyone from helping them.

Alcohol Abuse Intervention

The importance of alcohol abuse intervention can be measured in its success. Recovering from alcoholism can be extremely difficult, and oftentimes when individuals attempt to recover on their own, relapse occurs. The goal then of alcohol abuse intervention is to convince the individual to participate in a treatment program that will aid them throughout their process. Inpatient programs include individual counseling, group counseling, therapy, physical activity, 12-step program, etc. All of these methods of treatment aim to rid the individual of their addiction to a particular substance and restore the livelihood of the individual.

Drug and Alcohol Intervention

Drug and alcohol interventions have extremely high success rates. With the help of an intervention specialist, the family and friends of the individual are able to mentally, emotionally and physically prepare themselves for the intervention. By treating the situation appropriately, the family and friends of the affected individual have a much better chance of helping them recover successfully, without relapse.
