Drug Intervention

Drug addiction is a pathological condition. What may begin as recreational or social drug usage can very quickly intensify and become drug abuse and addiction. To generalize, drugs are highly addictive substances that people use for a variety of reasons. Some drugs are more addicting than others—sometimes a one-time usage or experimentation with a particular drug can turn into a full-blown addiction. Drug addiction is a life threatening addiction that affects not only the individual, but all those around him or her. Addiction is a very destructive disease that can ruin someone’s life all to easily. If you know some who is displaying symptoms of drug and/or alcohol addiction consider the possibility of a drug intervention.

Drug and Alcohol Intervention Strategies

A drug intervention is a structured process. The process itself requires a great deal of preparation, both in terms of planning the actual intervention, but also emotional preparation. The intervention will be facilitated and carried out by a trained professional. The drug interventionist will attempt to persuade and coerce the addict into treatment with the help of the addicts family members and loved ones. The intervention participants must remain compassionate, understanding and patient. This will allow the individual to understand and see the wide network of support they have. By implementing certain drug and alcohol intervention strategies, the interventionist and the participants will establish a comfortable environment in which the individual feels supported rather than attacked.

Intervention Services

The primary goal of these intervention services is to help the addict recognize that their addiction is both dangerous, and debilitating. Following the intervention, the hope is to place the addicted individual into a treatment center. This immediate placement gives the addicted individual no time to sink back into denial, and instead forces them to admit to their problem and begin recovering.
