Watching an a person you love through their life away to alcohol or drugs is sometimes harder on friends and family than on anyone else. They will lie, manipulate, point fingers and place blame on everyone else but themselves. They can really make you feel terrible about yourself and guilty for calling them out for their addiction. Any TV show is going to amp up a certain level of the drama. The thing with addiction though is most addicts bring the drama already.
